On 5 August 2015, the Polish president signed a law "protecting strategic Polish companies from hostile takeovers".
The law will allow the Ministry of Treasury to block takeovers by foreign shareholders in the gas, chemicals, petrochemicals, energy and defence industries, if it deems the takeover to be contrary to the "fundamental interests of the country" (press release by the Treasury Ministry, 05.08.2015). The takeovers may be halted for public, as well as private Polish companies.
The law is going to come into force 30 days after its announcement.
The official document of the law has not been published yet.
