In 2012 Wyandotte County provided an incentives package to General Motors for expansion of a motor vehicles plant. The county approved the bond issue in anticipation of GM's announcement in January, 2013 that it would carry out a massive expansion of its paint shop at its Fairfax assembly plant. The bond issue made possible property tax abatements and sales tax exemptions, the value of which were not announced. The estimated value of the subsidy is $120 million.
