ANNOUNCEMENT 24 Feb 2010In February 2010, the government of Indonesia announced a change in import duties.
NUMBER OF INTERVENTIONS
47/PMK.011/2010 (in Bahasa Indonesia):
On 24 February 2010, Indonesia granted government borne import duties to a variety of products used in the production of motorized vehicles.
"Government borne" means that the import duty will be refunded by the state. Even though the importer has to pay the regular duty upfront, the measure could also be regarded as a zero tariff for the importer.
This measure is aimed at increasing the value added in the production of motorized vehicles and should boost the import of raw materials/intermediate goods rather than finished vehicles. The measure is temporary and will expire on 31 December 2010.
An exact list of the materials can be found in the annex of the regulation.
