Import tariff

On 11 July 2014, the Indian Ministry of Finance through Notification No. 24/2014 provide a facility for research institutions not registered with the Government in the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) to receive refunds of the customs and additional duty paid on imported scientific and technical instruments. The exemption which was already allowed to all such institutions that are registered with the DSIR is now extended to unregistered institutions provided they register with the DSIR and apply for a refund within one year from the payment date of the duties.
