Export ban

On 10 June 2022, the Japanese Ministry for Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) issued an update to its list of goods which are banned from export to Russia, in light of its invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. The updated list included heavy vehichles, industrial machinery and basic industrial parts. This expanded list was stated to go into effect from June 17.

In a press release annoucing the ban, METI stated that the items affected by the ban were ones that 'contribute to the strengthening of Russia's industrial base'. It also stated that such trade measures were part of 'Japan's international efforts for international peace'.
