On 28 April 2022, the Indian state of Maharashtra announced a transport and production subsidy for sugar mills for the 2021-2022 season. The state will provide a transport subsidy of INR 5 (approximately USD 0.07) per tonne per km. of transport beyond 50 km. and a production subsidy of INR 200 (approximately USD 2.61) per tonne if the sugar recovery drops below 10%. The subsidy will be provided for sugarcane crushed from 1 May 2022.
The Indian sugar season ends in India on 30 September 2022.
