18 March 2022 - The Japanese government released its seventh round of economic sanctions targeting Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.

Controls on commercial transactions and investment instruments
On 18 March 2022, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) issued a press release confirming it was imposing a seventh round of sanctions in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Nine firms were targeted, all relating to the production, sale or research of military and dual-use equipment.
The sanctions in question consisted of an 'asset freeze' of 15 individuals targeted, and a de facto ban on 'capital transactions (deposit contracts, trust contracts and monetary loan contracts)' to the firms/groups listed. The measures went into effect upon promulgation of the announcement.
