In October 2021, the Italian Ministry of Economic Affairs signed an inter-ministerial decree aimed at founding the Fondo Impresa Donna, an instrument encouraging female entrepreneurship.

Financial grant

On 2 October 2021, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MISE) signed the decree creating Fondo Donna Impresa with an initial budget of EUR 440 million (USD 510.2 million) co-financed by the Italian government and the EU. The fund aims at encouraging innovative projects led by female entrepreneurs and will offer a range of financial solutions, including grants. The fund will be valid during the period 2021-2026.

Under the fund, undertakings will receive up to 250,000 euros for new businesses and up to 400,000 euros for existing ones. Such resources aim at financing wages or intangible assets or factory plants. Enterprises supported by the fund range from joint-stock companies to self-employed individuals. No restriction in terms of sectoral scope was announced.

The fund also provides loans and capital injections (see related interventions). 

Notably, the measure forms part of the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (see related state act).
