March 29th, 2021 - The Chinese government announced the exemption of import tariffs for certain pharmaceutical products.

On March 29th, 2021, the Chinese State Council Tariffs and Tax Standards Commission released Caiguanshui 2021/13 (hereafter, 'Announcement').
The Announcement stated that anti-HIV drugs on a list determined by the Chinese Health Commission would be exempted from import tariffs for ten years. Specifically, the tariffs exemptions were retroactively implemented from the beginning of 2021 to last until the end of 2030.
The list of products was not publicised. A list of HS codes based on commonly prescribed antiretroviral HIV medication has been used as the basis for the taxonomy of this measure. The prior tariff levels are the ad valorem percentage levied by the Chinese State Council Tariffs and Tax Standards Commission for the HS codes in question, i.e. 6.5%.
