Anti-dumping

On January 8, 2013, the Secretary for Foreign Trade of the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade decided to initiate an anti-dumping investigation on imports of glasses for household electrical appliances from China (Circular No. 4, 08.01.2013). The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS code: 7007.1900. The complaint was lodged by the Brazilian sectorial organisation Associação Técnica Brasileira das Indústrias Automáticas de Vidro (ABIVIDRO) on May 31, 2012. The investigation started on the day of the publication of the circular in the Federal Official Gazette of Brazil, i.e. on January 9, 2013.

On November 1, 2013, the Secretary for Foreign Trade of the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade decided to extend for up to six months, from January 9, 2014, the investigation period to determine the existence of dumping in exports of glasses for household electrical appliances from China (Circular No. 67, 01.11.2013).

On July 3, 2014, the Brazilian authorities decided to impose a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of glasses for household electrical appliances from China (Resolution No. 46, 03.07.2014). The amount of duty ranges from USD 2.74 to USD 5.45 per square metre, depending on the Chinese producer. This definitive duty entered into force on the day of the publication of the resolution in the Federal Official Gazette of Brazil, i.e. on July 4, 2014, and is applicable for a period of five years.

On 1 July 2019, the Brazilian authorities initiated a sunset review of the definitive antidumping duty imposed on imports of the subject good from China. This follows the application lodged on 31 January 2019 by Associação Técnica Brasileira das Indústrias Automáticas de Vidro - ABIVIDRO. The duty will remain in force for the duration of the review.

On 25 June 2020, the Brazilian authorities extended the definitive duty on imports of glasses for household electrical appliances from China. The rate of duty is USD 2.74 or 5.45 per m². The duty is in force for a period of five years.
