On 30 December 2012, Serbia decided to suspend tariffs on a multitude of products that are not produced in Serbia. These goods are mainly machines/ mechanical appliances for industrial or agricultural purpose. The tariff suspension is limited to 12 months and will expire on 31 December 2013.
To make use of this tariff suspension, the buyer must show to the customs authority that the specific good is not produced in Serbia plus an intended purpose must be declared and no reselling is allowed during 3 years. Hence, this measure constitutes a tariff liberalization but the positive effect may only be moderate due to the additional administrative burdens.
