ANNOUNCEMENT 19 Feb 2019
In February 2019, the Philippine authorities initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of clear and tinted float glass. In August 2019, a provisional duty was imposed. In August 2020, the investigation was terminated.

The safeguard investigation on imports of clear and tinted float glass was initiated on 19 February 2019. The products subject to investigation are classified under HS code subheadings: 7005.29.90, 7005.21.90 and 7005.10.90. This follows the application lodged by the Philippine float glass industry.
On 31 July 2019, the Philippine authorities issued a DTI Order imposing a provisional safeguard duty on imports of the subject good. The rate of duty is Philippine Peso 2,552 (approx. USD 48.23) per tonne. The duty enters into force on 15 August 2019 for a period of 200 days. A number of developing countries are exempt from safeguard duties.
On 26 August 2020, the Philippine authorities announced the termination of the investigation without the imposition of duties.
