FDI: Entry and ownership rule

Law 12/2012 allows foreign universities to establish affiliations in Indonesia, as long as this is done in cooperation with a local university and involves a non-profit university. The decision whether to permit such an establishment will, however, lie with the Ministry of Education.

The law came into force on the day of its issuance, i.e. on 10 August 2012.

Update

In April 2018, the education sector was further opened to allow foreign universities to invest in Indonesia without having to cooperate with local institutions (see Related State Acts).
