ANNOUNCEMENT 10 Jan 2018

On 10 January 2018, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade announced regulation 17/2018 simplifying the importing procedure for used capital goods. It updates regulation 127/M-DAG/PER/12/2015, recently amended by regulation 90/2017 (see related state acts).

The regulation 17/2018 by the Ministry of Trade amends the import regulations on used capital goods. With this amendment, the importing process should be sped up, as the products will no longer an inspection and clearance at the border and will be replaced with a "self declaration" by the importer (art.16A(3) of the regulation), which will be checked only after the goods have entered Indonesia.

The move is part of the government's effort (cf. press release from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs) to reduce the dwelling times at ports, which are the highest in Southeast Asia.
