In December 2009, the government of China initiated a sunset review and extended the duty in December 2010. In January 2017, the duty was extended for a new period following the conclusion of a sunset review initiated in January 2016. In December 2021, a new sunset review was initiated.

Anti-dumping

On 31 December 2010, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) released the Notice NO.92(2010) announcing the final determination on levying anti-dumping duty on Methanol (listed under 90011000 in the import tariffs of the Chinese Customs) originating from Japan and the Republic of Korea.

On 31 December 2010, in accordance with the Notice NO.92(2010) which announces the final determination on levying anti-dumping duty on the subject good originating from Japan and Republic of Korea, the MOFCOM holding that termination of the anti-dumping duty on Dispersion Unshifted Single-Mode Optical Fiber from Japan and Republic of Korea may be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of the dumping injury to Chinese domestic industry, and determined the continuation imposition the anti-dumping duty on Dispersion Unshifted Single-Mode Optical Fiber from Japan and Republic of Korea in accordance with Notice No.96(2004), Notice NO.19(2008) and Notice NO. 36 (2009) for another five years. This measure came into effect on 1 January 2011.

On 1 January 2016, the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China initiated a sunset review on imports of above-standing products from Japan and the Republic of Korea (Announcement No. 70 of 2015). The complaint was lodged on 30 September 2015 by the following companies: Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company, Futong Group Company Limited, Fiberhome Fujikura Optic Technology Co., Ltd., Hengtong Optic-Electric Co., Ltd., Zhongtian Technology Optical Fiber Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Fasten Photonics Co., Ltd., Chengdu Sei Optical Fiber Co., Ltd., and Tongding Interconnection Information Co., Ltd.

On 1 January 2017, the Chinese authorities extended the definitive duty imposed on imports of the subject good from Japan and the Republic of Korea. The rate of duty on imports from Japan is between 7.9% and 46%. The rate of duty on imports from the Republic of Korea is between 7.9% and 46%.

On 31 December 2021, the Chinese authority announced the initiation of a sunset review of the definitive duty imposed on imports of the subject good from Japan and the Republic of Korea. This follows the application lodged on 2 September 2021 by Changfei Optical Fiber and Cable Co. Ltd., Futong Group Co. Ltd., Fiberhome Fujikura Optical Fiber Technology Co. Ltd., Jiangsu Hengtong Optical Fiber Technology Co. Ltd., Zhongtian Technology Optical Fiber Co. Ltd., and Chengdu Zhongzhu.

On 31 December 2021, the Chinese authority extended the definitive duty on imports of the subject good from Japan and the Republic of Korea until 1 January 2023, following the initiation of the sunset review. The rate of duty on imports of Japan is 46.0%. The rate of duty on imports from Korea ranges from 7.9% and 46.0% depending on the company.
