Export quota

On 9 May 2012, the European Commission announced regulation 394/2012 amending the quantitative limit for out-of-quota exports of sugar.
Compared to the previous limit (cf. Related Measures), the limit was reduced from 1'350'000 tonnes to 650'000 tonnes.
The regulation also introduced the provision that the limit shall not apply to a number of jurisdictions that have signed trade agreements with the EU (cf. art.1(2) of regulation 394/2012), including Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Greenland, Serbia and the Faroe Islands.
The changed limits shall apply from 1 October 2012 to 30 September 2013. The limit was later on renewed:

  • for the period from 1 October 2013 until 30 September 2014 by regulation 476/2013
  • for the period from 1 October 2014 until 30 September 2015 by regulation 776/2014
  • for the period from 1 October 2015 until 30 September 2016 by regulation 1164/2015
  • for the period from 1 October 2016 until 30 September 2017 by regulation 1713/2016.

However, the quota was raised on 12 March 2017. Hence, this intervention is no longer classified as implemented.
