On 21 March 2020, the Indian Union Cabinet of Ministers approved two schemes to promote domestic manufacturing of Key Starting Materials/Drug Intermediates and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. One scheme is for the development of common infrastructure facilities and the other to incentivize domestic production of certain drugs.

  • The scheme on the Promotion of Bulk Drug Parks
    • The scheme aims to develop 3 mega Bulk Drug parks in partnership with States
    • The Parks will provide Common Infrastructure Facilities such as solvent recovery plant, distillation plant, power and steam units, common effluent treatment plant, etc.
    • The scheme has a corpus of INR 3000 crore (~USD 398 million) that will be provided as Grants-in-Aid to states with a maximum limit of INR 1000 crore (~USD 133 million) per Park.
    • The duration of the scheme is 5 years

The Indian financial year begins on 1 April and has been considered as the state for the above scheme as well.
