Safeguard

On August 28, 2014, the Jordanian National Production Protection Directorate, Ministry of Industry and Trade, initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of writing and printing papers size A4.
The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS code: 4802.563.
This follows the application lodged by the domestic industry.
According to the UN Comtrade Database, in 2013 the following countries exported goods classified under HS code subheading 4802.56 to Jordan with a trade value over USD 1 million: Portugal (USD 3.72 million) and Indonesia (USD 1.21 million).

On March 26, 2015, the Jordanian National Production Protection Directorate completed the investigation and determined that there was sufficient evidence that the increase of imports of the subject product had caused injury to the domestic industry.

On April 16, 2015, the Jordanian authorities submitted to the WTO Safeguard Committee a proposal to impose a definitive safeguard measure for three years.

On 18 November 2015, the Jordanian authorities notified the authorities of the termination of the above investigation without the imposition of duties. The authorities terminated the investigation on 3 November 2015.
