NoOn 29 March 2013, the Ministry of Commerce proposed a 5 per cent duty on DRI imports.
The National Tariff Commission reviewed a demand from the operator of the Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant, who asked for the imposition of a 10% customs duty. As a direct reaction, the domestic steel melters association opposed the demand and voted for an absence of customs duties on DRI.
The proposed 5 per cent duty by the Ministry of Commerce thus constitutes a compromise.
