On 14 June 2016, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council (Camex) issued Resolution No. 44 introducing a tariff-rate quota on sardines falling under the Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM): 0303.53.00. The import duty is reduced from 10% to 2% with a quota of 30,000 tonne. The measure entered into force on 15 June 2016 for a period of six months.
