On 12 May 2016, the Indian Directorate General of Anti-dumping & Allied Duties, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, initiated an anti-dumping investigation on imports of sodium chlorate originating in or exported from Canada, China and the European Union. The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS code subheading: 2829.11.00. This investigation follows the application lodged by the two companies Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited and Teamec Chlorates Limited.
On 2 November 2017, the Indian Ministry of Finance imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty on the subject goods from Canada, China and the European Union (Notification No. 53/2017-Customs (ADD)). The rate of duty on imports from China is USD 17.77 per tonne. The rate of duty on imports from Canada is USD 120.14 per tonne. The rate of duty on imports from the European Union is USD 60.51 or 95.35 per tonne depending on the company. The duty is in force for a period of five years.
