ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
Numerous and consistent local and international press reports inform in the period September 21-26, 2012 that the Ukraine has notified its trading partners that it wants to charge maximum tariffs on more than 350 goods. Among the affected goods are 'cars, trucks, agricultural machinery, meat, flowers, fruit, vegetables, washing machines and even syringes' (e.g. Reuters, September 21, 2012).
On September 24, 2012, Mr Petro Poroshenko, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, clarified in a press briefing that Ukraine's intentions are not to raise import tariffs on a range of goods but to reopen negotiations on its WTO membership (RBK Ukraine, September 24, 2012).
Mr Poroshenko's statement is in line with the position of Mr Mykola Azarov, Prime Minister of Ukraine, who emphasised during a press conference, held on September 09, 2012 in Yalta that the Ukrainian government works on the formulation of new conditions for its WTO membership (RBK Ukraine, September 09, 2012).
