On 26 March 2015, the government of Slovenia approved the Employment, Self-employment and Work of Aliens Act. The Act defines the conditions for the employment of foreign nationals within the Slovenian jurisdiction.
This Act (as envisaged in Directive 2011/98/EU) introduces a single permit for work for foreign nationals. The "one-stop shop" that combines work and residence permits in one application shall reduce bureaucratic hurdles to labor market access.
The Act put in front of the National Assembly goes beyond the scope of the EU directive through the inclusion of seasonal work, self-employed and frontier commuters.
The total number of immigrants residing in Slovenia (as per official records released in 2014) is 13,846. Approximately, over 60% of the immigrants currently situated in Slovenia come from non EU member states (primarily from the ex member States of SFR Yugoslavia i.e. Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina).
