Import tariff

 Effective 1 January 2010, Sri Lanka extended an exemption from surcharge of 15% on the import duty to certain plastic products of polymers of of vinyl chloride and of polyutheranes under HS 3921.
 
The duty surcharge was initially imposed in January 2007 at 10% and was later increased to 15%. It covers all product imports except specified products which include milk products, potatoes, onions, chillies, seeds, dried vegetables,wheat, rice, cement, sugar, paper, auto trishaws and all products under chapters 50 to 63.
 
Effective 1 June 2010, the surcharge of 15% on all products has been withdrawn (see related measure)
