Import tariff

On 25 April 2014 the government of Argentina, via Resolution 3618, updated the list of "criterion values" (valores criterio de carácter preventivo) for imports of toys (HS 9503).

The updated list of "criterion values" for HS 9503, corresponds to a range of FOB values from USD 4.02 to USD 9.60 (depending on the type of product) per kg. The previous import criterion values for the relevant products corresponded to a range of FOB values from USD 4.02 to USD 10.72 per kg.

Furthermore, the countries for which this updated list of "criterion values" refers to are: China, the Democratic People Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Nevertheless, according to UN Comtrade Statistics, Argentina in the fiscal year 2013, in the context of HS 9503, only had relevant trade flows (over USD 1,000,000) with China, Viet Nam, and India.
This resolution besides HS 9503, also highlights HS 9504 and HS 9505. However, the "criterion values" for HS 9504 and HS 9505, have not been changed and, therefore, continue to correspond to a FOB value of USD 6.70 and USD 10.72 per kg. As the GTA only reports changes in the policy stance, the mentioned products are not included as affected in this measure.

On 12 August 2021, the Federal Administration for Public Revenue of Argentina (AFIP in Spanish) adopted General Resolution 5050/2021 updating the reference prices for certain imports under subheadings 9503.00.80 and 9504.90.90 (see related state act). In particular, toys imported under subheading 9503.00.80 are now subjected to a lower import criterion value, whilst toys imported under subheading 9504.90.90 are now subjected to a higher import criterion value.
