Technical barrier to trade

Through resolution 894 of November 11th, 2009, Argentina suspended the application of Dispositions 300/00 y 506/00, which implemented a mutual recognition agreement on toy safety and quality certification concluded with Brazil in the context of Mercosur. As from that date, toys originating from Brazil will have to apply for safety and quality certification before Argentinean competent authorities.
The declared goal of the measure is to eliminate the alleged 'asymmetrical' treatment that results from a similar provision unilaterally adopted by Brazil in 2007.
