On 18 June 2015, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Government of St. Petersburg and the company "ExpoForum-International" (related to Gazprom Group) signed a cooperation agreement for the development of import substitution in the North-West region of Russia in the framework of a Centre for import substitution and localization.
The main features of the Centre are:

  • the first and only to date structure of its kind in Russia;
  • offers possibility for discussion and solution of practical issues of the industry (for example, advice on financing, leasing, certification, insurance, logistics, import-substition).

The city authorities of St. Petersburg expect the work of the centre to attract for the economy of St. Petersburg about 200 billion Russian Rubles (approximately 3.71 billion USD according to the USD/RUB official exchange rate for 18 June 2015), and to contribute to a significant increase in export volumes (Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Federal issue No. 6775 of September 11, 2015).
