On 1 June 2009, the Indian Ministry of Railways issued the Rates Circular No. 36 of 2009 specifying the tariff rates for transportation of iron ore through railways. The Circular differentiates iron ore meant for domestic consumption as compared to that meant for exports. Accordingly, the latter is subject to an addtional Distance Based Charge ranging from 0-125% of the normal charge according to the distance of such transport. The Circular is applicable until 5 September 2009
On 30 July 2009, the tariff rates were increased by Rs. 200 per tonne and the applicability of the rates was extended till 5 November 2009. The measure was further extended through Addendums 2-7 until 15 May 2010.
The following amendments were introduced later on the above tariff rate (Note the fixed tariff rate is in addition to the 0-125% charge mentioned above).
