Export quota

On 3 March 2010, the Government of India vide Notification No. 33 / 2009-2014, allowed the annual export of 20,000 MTs of non-Basmati rice to Sri Lanka and the annual export of 25,000 MTs of non-Basmati rice to Nepal.
The export was allowed only through the specified Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) during July-October 2009-2010 (autumn season), and the PSUs would source the rice from surplus stock, without affecting the overall price situation.
Export of non-basmati rice had previously been banned through notifications issued in October 2007, and February 2008.
