Export tax

On 27 January 2009, vide Notification No. 83 (RE-2008) / 2004-2009, the Government of India imposed new restrictions in the form of Minimum Export Price (MEP) requirements on the export of Basmati rice from the country.
 
The MEP was imposed at USD 1100 or Rs. 49,500 per ton FOB. This initial intervention was superseded by an adjustment that reduced the MEP in September 2009 (see related State Act).
