ANNOUNCEMENT 12 May 2015
In May 2015, the government of Indonesia announced a general change in export conditions.
NUMBER OF INTERVENTIONS
Ministry of Trade regulation 33/M-DAG/PER/5/2015 (in Bahasa Indonesia):
Ministry of Trade regulation 53/2018 (in Bahasa Indonesia)
On 12 May 2015, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade announced regulation 33/M-DAG/PER/5/2015 amending previous regulation 44/M-DAG/PER/7/2014 (cf. Related Measures) on export provisions of tin.
With the new regulation, only tin ingots, tin solder and tin plate (cf. Annex I of the regulation) will be allowed to be exported. Additionally, all tin exporters will be required to present a proof that the tin originates from legal mines.
According to the Trade Ministry, this measure was introduced in order to better combat tin exports from illegal mining.
The regulation shall come into effect on 1 August 2015.
On 17 April 2018, the Ministry issued a second amendment 53/2018. While the new regulation changes certain documents required for tin exports, it does not substantially change the severity of the export barrier. Hence, this intervention continues to be classified as implemented.
