In March 2015, the government of Malaysia initiated a new anti-dumping investigation. In January 2021, a sunset review was initiated and the definitive duty was extended for a new period in July 2021.

Anti-dumping

On 28 April 2015, the Malaysian authorities initiated an anti-dumping investigation on imports of pre-painted/painted/colour coated steel coils from China and Vietnam.
The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS codes: 7210.7021, 7210.7029 and 7210.7090.
The complaint was lodged on March 30th, 2015 by FIW Steel Sdn. Bhd.
 
On 17 September 2015, the Malaysian authorities made an affirmative preliminary determination of dumping and therefore decided upon the imposition of a provisional anti-dumping duty according to the Indonesian law firm JWK Law Office. The rate of the duty imposed on imports originating in China is 52.1%. The rate of the duty imposed on imports originating in Vietnam ranges from 5.68% to 16.45%.
 
On 24 January 2016, the Malaysian authorities imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty (P.U. (B) No. 41/2016, 22.01.2016). The rate of the duty imposed on imports originating in China is 52.1%. The rate of the duty imposed on imports originating in Viet Nam is 34.85% with the exception of the companies Maruichi Sun Steel Joint Stock Company subject to a duty of 12.06% and Nam Kim Steel Joint Stock Company that is not subject to a duty. The duty is calculated as the percentage of the Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) value.

On 21 January 2021, the Malaysian authorities announced the initiation of a sunset review of the definitive duty imposed on imports of the subject good from China and Vietnam.

On 16 July 2021, the Malaysian authorities issued a regulation extending the definitive duty imposed on imports of pre-painted/painted/colour coated steel coils from China and Viet Nam following the conclusion of the sunset review. The rate of duty on imports from China is 52.10%. The rate of duty on imports from Vietnam is 34.85%.
