Import tariff

On 12 July 2013, upon the advice of the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) introduced a rebate of the full duty for solid sodium hydroxide (caustic soda, HS 2815.11) for use in the manufacture of sodium metasilicates (HS 2839.11).

The ITAC found that the product in question is manufactured in the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), but not in sufficient quantities to meet the SACU market requirements.
