Import tariff

On 18 October 2013, upon the advice of the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) reduced the import duty on laminates of phenolic resins with a basis of paper, thermosetting (HS 3921.90.07), from 10 per cent ad valorem to free of duty. The customs duty is new for all countries except for EU, EFTA and members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), whichalready were exempted from the import tariff.

The ITAC decided to raise the customs duty since the products concerned are not manufactured in the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) and the existing duty has an unnecessary cost-raising effect.
