On 29 November 2013, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) reduced the customs duty on self-adhesive polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film (HS 3919.90.03). The import tariff was reduced from 10% ad valorem to free of duty for non-EU states. However, EFTA states had previously been assigned only a duty of 2.5%.
The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) based its decision on the finding that there are no producers of the abovementioned product in the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).
