Import tariff

On 6 February 2015, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) increased the tariff rate on certain helical springs from 5% to 30%. The HS code in question is HS 7320.20.10.

The duty applies to products entering the Southern African Customs Union (SACU). The EU, EFTA and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) are exempted from a tariff on helical springs.

The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) decided to raise the customs duty on the basis that domestic manufacturers of helical springs are experiencing significant price disadvantages vis-ŕ-vis foreign producers exporting the product to SACU.
