On 11 May 2011, the Permanent Delegation of Indonesia to the WTO reported a new decree to protect human health and public moral. The decree states that alcohol can only be imported, distributed and sold by Indonesian-owned entities located in Indonesia.
The provisions came into force on 1 January 2010.
According to UN Comtrade, Indonesia did not have bilateral trade on alcoholic beverages worth over 1 million USD with any single country in the year prior to the implementation of this measure, i.e. in 2009. Hence, no affected trading partner has been listed.
