Import tariff

On 12 January 2009, Pakistan made an amendment to its policy for import of old and used vehicles, thereby leading to increased customs duty on such imports. Since 2005, Pakistan has been fixing a cap on the customs duty and withholding taxes applicable on the imports of old and used vehicles. A reduction in duty payable was allowed at the rate of 2% per month of usage of the vehicle before such import, subject to a maximum of 50%. The rate of reduction has been reduced with this measure to 1% per month of usage of the vehicle before import.
In a separate intervention in March 2011, the Pakistani government raised the rebate maximum (see related measure).
