Import tariff

On 24 February 2010, Indonesia granted government borne import duties to a variety of products used in the production of components of steam power plants.

"Government borne" means that the import duty will be refunded by the state. Even though the importer has to pay the regular duty upfront, the measure could also be regarded as a zero tariff for the importer.

This measure is aimed at increasing the value added in the production of steam power plant components and should boost the import of raw materials/intermediate goods rather than finished devices. The measure is temporary and will expire on 31 December 2010.
