In November 2008, Bangladesh banned the export of all varities of rice for six months. Earlier, in May 2008 export of non-aromatic rice was banned for six months, but with this measure all both aromatic and non-aromatic varities have been banned.
In May 2009, the ban was further extended and remaind in force until in June 2012. Since than aromatic rice exports are again allowed. However, the ban on non-aromatic varities continues and is currently applicable until 30 June 2015.
