Local operations

Effective 1 August 2014, Russian internet service providers became subject to a data localization requirement.
 
Federal Law 97 FZ/5.5.2014 stipulates that all "organisers of dissemination of information over the Internet" ("the organisers") are obliged to register with the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor). The new legal acts requires that all organisers store information about their users' behavior (reception, transmission, delivery, and processing) for six months on the territory of the Russian Federation.
