Import quota

On 22 August 2014, the International Bureau of Logistics (BULOG) announced it was instructed by the Ministry of Trade to import 200'000 tons of rice between October and December of the given year.
The decision to authorize the import came after the 'Ministry of Trade anticipated problems in the national rice production' ('Bulog Telah Realisasikan Impor 10.00 Ton Beras", BULOG, 22.8.2014; own translation).
Following these instructions, BULOG signed a contract with Vietnam for the full amount of the needed rice. 50'000 tons of 5% broken rice will be supplied for $443.5/ton and the remaining 150'000 tons of 15% broken rice were purchased by the Bureau for $4421/ton.
