On 25 April 2014, upon the advice of the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) issued Notice R. 306, increasing the import tariffs on heat exchange units (HS 8419.50) from free of duty to the WTO bound rate of 15%. Imports from EU, EFTA and SADC member states remain exempt from the duty.
The ITAC levied the duty due to increasing imports of heat exchange units which are eroding the domesitc industry's market share.
The measure took effect on 25 April 2014 and applies to the Southern African Customs Union (SACU):
