On 7 March 2014, upon the advice of the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) issued Notice R.153, altering certain import tariffs. EU and SADC countries were and remain exempt from import duties on the products concerned; EFTA member states benefit from reduced rates in some cases, listed below. The products concerned are:

  • Hexagon dome nuts, hexagon nuts with non-metallic inserts, hexagon collared nuts and hexagon self-locking nuts (new tariff heading 7318.16.20): from free of duty to 10%
  • Other hexagon nuts (new tariff heading 7318.16.30): from free of duty to 20%
  • Other screws, fully threaded with hexagon heads (excluding those of stainless steel; HS 7318.15.39): from 10% to 20% (EFTA: from 2.5% to 1.3%)
  • Other bolts (excluding bolt ends, screw studs and screw studding) with hexagon heads (HS 7318.15.43): from 10% to 20% (EFTA: from 2.5% to 1.3%)

The measure took effect on 7 March 2014.
