On 28 April 2014, the Ministry of Economy and Public Finance (MEFP) issued Decree no. 606/14, establishing the Argentine Economic Development Fund (FONDEAR). One of the specific aims of FONDEAR is to promote import substitution.
 
According to Article 5 of the Decree, projects can be wholly or partially financed through FONDEAR if they take place in strategic sectors and/or are important for regional development. Priority is granted to those projects that show export potential and/or the capacity to substitute imports for domestic products.
