In February 2014, the government of India initiated a new anti-dumping investigation and a definitive duty was imposed in May 2019. In October 2019, a sunset review was initiated and the duty was extended for a new period in May 2020.

Anti-dumping

On February 28, 2014, the Indian Directorate General of anti-dumping & allied duties, Ministry of Commerce, initiated an anti-dumping investigation on imports of sodium citrate from China. The product subject to investigation is classified under the following HS code: 2918.1520. This follows the application lodged by M/s Posy Pharmachem Private Limited, a domestic producer of the investigated good.
 
On February 26th, 2015, the Indian Directorate General of anti-dumping & allied duties, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, issued its final findings and recommended the imposition of a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of sodium citrate originating in China.
On May 20th, 2015, the Indian Ministry of Finance issued the Customs Notification imposing this definitive anti-dumping duty (Notification No. 19/2015-Customs (ADD), 20.05.2015). The amount of the duty is USD 367.59 per metric ton after reducing the amount of safeguard duty applicable on the subject goods vide Notification No. 04/2014-Customs (SG) dated December 31st, 2014 (see measure 6333). This definitive duty is effective for a period of five years.

On 25 October 2019, the Indian authorities initiated a sunset review of the definitive duty imposed on imports of sodium citrate from China. This follows the application lodged by Posy Pharmachem Private Limited.

On 19 May 2020, the Indian authorities extended the definitive duty imposed on imports of the subject good from China. The rate of duty is USD 96.05 or 152.78 per tonne depending on the company.  The duty is in force for a period of five years.
