Import tariff

On 15 July 2010, the Federal Administration of Public Revenue (AFIP) adopted General Resolution 2872, increasing the reference prices set on imports of different types of eyeglass frames, of various materials. The items figure under the Mercosur Nomenclature codes 9003.11.00, 9003.19.10, 9003.19.90, 9004.10.00, and 9004.90.10.

The corresponding reference prices, which represent free on board values, were increased from values ranging between USD 0.55 and USD 9.10 per unit to values ranging from USD 0.94 to USD 15.47 per unit.

The new import criterion values affect the following jurisdictions: the Republic of Korea, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, China, Chinese Taipei, Philippines, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

This measure applied to imports taking place as of 26 July 2010.

Argentina introduced reference values of precautionary nature for import goods in June 2005. The stated purpose is to strengthen customs control and prevent under-invoicing. Importers are required to provide guarantees for the difference in duties and taxes if the declared price of an import is lower than its reference price (see 7th GTA Report and 2014 National Trade Estimate Report). A list with all current reference prices can be consulted under: www.afip.gov.ar/aduana/valoracion/valores.criterios.pdf <U+200E>

Update
On 24 May 2011, the AFIP adopted General Resolution 3111/2011 changing the applicable import criterion values set on eyeglass frames (please, see related state acts).
