Local operations

On 21 July 2014 the President of the Russian Federation signed Federal Law No. 242-FZ 'On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation (RF) for Clarification of Personal Data Processing in Information and TelecommunicationsNetworks'which will come into force on 1 September, 2016.
 
It introduces the new requirement for all entities, referred to in Article 3(2) of the Personal Data Law as 'operators', to store personal data of Russian citizens in servers/data centers located in the Russian Federation. The law does not prohibit the storage of duplicate data outside the country.
