Production subsidy

On 11 August 2014, the EU Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner, Dacian Ciolos, introduced a support measure for the peach and nectarine sectors. Due to the ongoing Russian import bans (including the above mentioned products) it was argued that oversupply needs to be corrected to stabilize the prices.

To that end, the EC increased the volumes of fruits eligible for "withdrawal" and free distribution. Farmers will be compensated for these volumes, hence the measure represents a financial benefit which gives the EU farmers an advantage over their non-EU rivals.

The measure is therefore considered trade distorting and the list of affected countries consists of all non-EU rivals exportingpeaches and nectarines (HS code 080930) to the EU.

Update:
On 8 August 2015, the EC prolonged the measure until June 2016 by regulation 1369/2015.
