On 29 February 2012, Polish authorities decided to grant investment aid to the coke plant Koksownia Czestochowa Nowa. The aid worth EUR 11.48 million (PLN 48.06 million) was used to build a new coke battery in Czestochowa, the Slaskie region.
The beneficiary has been part of the ironworks Zaklady ISD Huta Czestochowa until 2013. Since then, it is an independent company specialising in coke, coal-related products and coke oven gas.
Most of the aid originated from EU's Operational Fund Innovative Economy and amounted to EUR 9.75 million (PLN 40.85 million), whereas the remaining 1.73 million were financed by Poland. The project cost in total EUR 46.93 million (PLN 196.57 million) and was due on 30 September 2011.
A state measure in the GTA database is assessed solely in terms of the extent to which its implementation affects the extent of discrimination against foreign commercial interests. On this metric, the state aid proposed here is discriminatory.
